Contemporary portrait and product images from an old-fashioned love of light.

I have been photographing since 1988, when I first picked up a camera and marvelled at the fog rolling onto the coast of Maine, USA. Luckily, the results from that first roll of film were encouraging and, to this day, I still love to photograph the sea.

I really enjoy working with light, and I find studio work - whether it's portraiture or still-life - just as rewarding.

However, I'm now much more likely to want to light and photograph people than things; Accosting strangers and asking them to pose for me is just one of my more recent photographic habits!

As a result, I have developed a rapport with sitters and now specialise in making portraits of the camera-shy. Many of the portraits on this website are of people who had previously hated having their photo taken.
My secret? I care just as much about how my sitters feel as I do about lighting, and it shows!

Recent satisfied clients include Aggregate Industries, the National Theatre for Scotland and Finance Talking, and some of my portrait work appears regularly in The Guardian.
